Stop and Snap – Modern Masters Exterior Shimmers to Passing Traffic

Great Design Just Overhead

Almost every painting contractor has overhead, but in this case, like with many decorative painting projects, the job itself was “overhead.” Jeff Monsein, founder and owner of Splat Paint & Design in Tampa, Florida, was hired to create custom patterns on a curved ceiling dome as well as the walls of his client’s home. The team, which along with Jeff included painters Paula Bowen, Jair Medina, and Jindriska Krulichova, had to build scaffolding so they could access it properly. They then went to work creating custom patterns, using stencils for the designs which employed subtle colors in matte and metallic. They created single-use stencils for the work on the ceiling; because it was a curved surface it took some extra attention to make it come out right. For their efforts, they received a 2020 TOP JOB award from American Painting Contractor, a trade magazine for the professional painter.

Monsein has 20 years’ experience as a professional faux artist. He had previously worked in the field of auto and diesel mechanics, but his interest in art brought him around to Splat. Modern Masters figured prominently in this project, and the finishes he created kept getting him more work throughout the house, much of which featured Modern Masters as well. “The client was thrilled and kept asking for more projects,” he said

Modern Masters products find their way into many of Monsein’s designs. “They are super strong, durable and brilliant,” he said. “On this project we used them for stenciling and painting our patterns. It’s very easy to use and it dries fast and hard. Some of the metallics take several layers to become solid, but they dry fast so it’s easy to add more layers. We use tons of it.”
